Australia hammered England by eight wickets in the second Ashes Test in Brisbane. The win gave them a 2-0 lead in the series and kept them firmly at the top of the World Test Championship table.

England began well with a solid first innings. Joe Root played a calm 138 not out and Zak Crawley added 76. Their stand pushed England to a strong total, but Mitchell Starc broke the momentum with 6 for 75. His spell stopped England from reaching a much bigger score.

Australia answered with a huge 511. Several batters chipped in with fifties. Marnus Labuschagne looked steady, Steve Smith and Alex Carey kept the runs flowing, and even Starc and Jake Weatherald joined in. England’s bowlers struggled for control, though Brydon Carse fought hard for his 4 for 152.

England slipped in the second innings. They could manage only 241 even after a brave fifty from Ben Stokes. Michael Neser ran through the line up with 5 for 42 and opened the door for a simple chase.

Australia completed the job inside 10 overs. They lost two wickets but were never worried as they wrapped up the match by eight wickets to take a strong hold on the Ashes.
