Following the team’s underwhelming results in the T20 World Cup 2024, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has arranged a meeting with white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten to discuss future plans.
Pakistan suffered two back-to-back group stage defeats in the World Cup. They failed to make it to the semi final of the ODI World Cup 2023 and suffered an even more bizarre outing in T20 World Cup 2024.
The decision to reappoint Babar Azam as the white-ball captain backfired severely for the team. There is now ongoing discussion about his future as Pakistan’s white-ball captain.
“There is, however, no decision taken so far related to Babar Azam. I’m only speaking to those former cricketers who are interested in the betterment of Pakistan cricket,” Moshin Naqvi was quoted as saying by Geo News.
There is no doubt that Babar Azam has been a below-average captain for the Pakistan cricket team. Despite this, PCB is backing him despite all the heartbreaks. With the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 in mind, it will be interesting to see what unfolds.
