Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has taken a dig at his own team for accusing Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib of cheating during their recent T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh.
Australia’s semi-final chances hinged on the outcome of the Afghanistan versus Bangladesh match. Had Afghanistan lost, Australia would have progressed.
Instead, Afghanistan‘s eight-run victory over Bangladesh via the DLS method meant Australia was eliminated and the Afghan Altans have made it to the semi-finals.
In the midst of it all, Gulbadin Naib‘s hamstring injury became a hot topic, drawing criticism from several former cricketers, especially Australians, who accused him of cheating.
Meanwhile, Michael Clarke argues that Australia has no grounds to complain. Here’s what he told ESPNCricinfo:
“If the sniper got another player of a different team, not mentioning the team, there would be a bit more circus about it. Just let it go and allow Afghanistan to celebrate this win, I think it is that special to them. I don’t think any Australian can be kicking too many stones because we are not squeaky clean when it comes to that type of stuff,” Clarke said on ESPN’s Around the Wicket.
Afghanistan will be facing South Africa in the first semi-final match of the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 27. On the other hand, India will lock horns with the reigning champions England in the second semi-final of the tournament.
